Spa Day at Losehill Hall
After having previously enjoyed the occasional facial or back massage at Losehill Hall, I added a link from our website to theirs. We felt our guests might like to take advantage of the facilities offered there, but I haven't ever spent whole spa day at the hotel. So, on Saturday, all in the name of market research, I went for a whole day's spa treatment along with my daughter. We had the option of either a £35 package including a two course lunch, plus use of the pool, sauna and hot tub, or a £70 package for two treatments, along with the two course lunch, use of pool, sauna and hot tub. I understand for £10 you can use the pool, hot tub and spa, but am not certain of this.
We woke up on Saturday morning to over a foot of snow, so were slightly anxious about getting from our house to Losehill Hall. We needn't have worried as the lane had been cleared and we managed to get to the hotel from the Edale Road. However, if the lane to the hotel had been blocked by snow it would have been possible to walk.
On arriving at the hotel we were offered a welcome coffee in the lounge then went down to the changing rooms with our robes, slippers and towels. Our day had been slightly muddled up due to the therapists getting stuck in the snow en route to work, and our treatments had been shifted to just before lunch. Instead of our treatments we headed straight for the hot tub, which was amazing, not least because we were sitting outside looking at the valley completely covered by snow. The hot tub itself accommodates four comfortably and probably eight at a squeeze. We stayed there for a very long time, just chatting, then ran across the snow (all of about three feet!) back to the pool and sauna before lounging by the pool prior to our treatments.
We both had a file and polish, then I had a facial and Emma had a back massage. Each treatment was half an hour long, and products used were Thalgo. Not products I know. My facial was very relaxing and Emma said her back massage was amazing. After we sat in the 'orangery' for lunch. This is in reality a large conservatory-type of room with glorious views over the valley. The food was fine - we shared a starter and pudding, thus allowing us to have in essence a three course lunch, with a glass of fizz as an extra. The best dish was definitely the white chocolate baked cheesecake, followed by the goat's cheese and beetroot starter. Emma had bream as her main course and I had chicken. Mine was a bit disappointing as I hadn't realized the chicken would be smoked; my fault as I don't like smoked chicken.
After lunch, around 3.15 pm, it was back into the hot tub, sauna and another swim before returning to the lounge for a some tea before heading home at 5 pm.
All in all, I was surprised at how the day slipped away, as I thought we might be twiddling our thumbs. This isn't a sophisticated hotel or spa, and there isn't as much to do here as at a major establishment: the pool is small and there isn't a steam room or a gym. There are no designated relaxation rooms or reading rooms away from the hotel guests and children, but it is more intimate and in many ways better value for money. Would I go back? Yes. I felt very relaxed at the end of the day, and surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The icing on the cake was to come back home and dozing in front of the fire with a glass of wine whilst my husband cooked supper - bliss!
